Learn About Our Projects:

Project A, "Mapping Disparities in Birth Outcomes", is investigating whether exposure to environmental pollution in combination with social stress contributes to racial and ethnic disparities in pregnancy outcomes throughout North Carolina.

Project B, the Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby Study, is a cohort study of pregnant women in Durham, NC designed to better understand the joint contributions of genetic, environmental, and social factors on birth outcomes.

Project C, "Perinatal Environmental Exposure Disparity and Neonatal Respiratory Health", is laboratory study using a mouse model to determine whether maternal exposure to airborne particulates, ozone, or a combination of both restricts fetal growth or post-natal growth by impairing lung development and function.

The Southern Center on Environmentally-Driven Disparities in Birth Outcomes (SCEDDBO) is an interdisciplinary children's health research center at Duke University. The mission is to determine how environmental, social, and host factors jointly contribute to health disparities. SCEDDBO involves programs in biomedicine, pediatric and obstetric care, environmental health, and the social sciences.
